For many years I have been hanging onto an old stamp collection. As is the case with many old collections, they aren’t worth what people thought they would be. I understand that I was never sitting on a gold mine. This collection was started by my brother when he was a child, and I held onto them out of nostalgia. There is something exciting about looking through these little commemorative pieces of our national history – they can even be considered mini pieces of art.
As each stamp is only worth a few cents, I also wanted to incorporate them into my own art work – to breath new life into them, so to speak. Finally, I dug the album out from it’s spot on the shelf and assessed the collection. Having found the “perfect” stamps, I transformed these forgotten pieces of paper in to miniature collages. This is proving to be a fun past time for me.
